Story of Prophet Adam AS

The Story of Prophet Adam (AS)

Creation from Clay

The story of Prophet Adam (AS) begins with Allah’s decision to create a very special human being, the first of its kind, made from earth. Consequently, Prophet Adam was formed from clay collected from all corners of the globe, symbolizing the unity of humanity despite differences in race, culture, and geography.

The Angels’ Curiosity and Allah’s Response

As the angels learned of Allah’s plan, they became curious, asking, “Why create a being that will cause corruption and shed blood?” This question showed their limited understanding, as they saw humanity’s potential for evil but not their potential for good. In response, Allah SWT said, “I know what you know not” (Quran 2:30), indicating that He has a broader perspective, seeing beyond the angels’ understanding.

Adam’s Knowledge and Authority

Subsequently, Allah SWT created Adam from clay and breathed life into him. Furthermore, the Quran describes Prophet Adam AS as the first human to receive knowledge from Allah. This knowledge was not only a testament to Adam’s unique status but also a reflection of humanity’s potential. Moreover, Allah taught Adam the names of all things (Quran 2:31).

Iblis’s Rebellion

However, among the angels lived a Jinn named Iblis, created from fire, known for his piety and worship, but ultimately becoming arrogant and proud. Consequently, when Allah SWT commanded the angels to prostrate before Adam AS, all the angels prostrated, but Iblis refused, citing his own superiority: “I am better than him. You created me from fire, and him from clay” (Quran 7:12).

The Fall of Adam and Hawwa

Meanwhile, Iblis’s pride led him to forget his own origin and dependence on Allah’s will. Despite Iblis’s arrogance, Allah SWT placed Adam and Hawwa in Paradise, commanding them to avoid one specific tree, warning them that approaching it would lead to their downfall. However, Satan, disguising himself as a friend, tempted them to disobey Allah’s command.

Repentance and Forgiveness

Overwhelmed with regret, Adam and Hawwa realized their mistake and turned to Allah, seeking forgiveness. Fortunately, Allah, in His infinite mercy, accepted their repentance and taught them words of prayer to seek pardon.

He said, “Get down from here, all of you. Some of you will be enemies of others. Then, if guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will not go astray, nor fall into distress” (Quran 2:38).
